Elon Musk, the wealthiest individual in the world and head of Tesla, SpaceX, and the owner of X (previously known as Twitter), received criticism following a controversial comment he made about singer Taylor Swift.
That followed Swift’s recent public support for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign that she shared on social platforms. “I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.” That came after the Harris/Donald Trump debate. Swift ended her post by humorously signing off as the “Childless Cat Lady,” a reference to remarks made by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, in 2022, where he criticized Democratic leaders as “childless cat ladies.”.
In response, Musk posted on X: “Fine Taylor you win I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.” That remark, apparently a joke, soon drew the ire of many users who accused Musk of being a pervert. Some labeled the remark as sexual harassment, including comments from notable figures like Claudia Conway, daughter of Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway, who wrote: “You’re creepy. Full stop.”
Critics on X labeled the statement “disturbing” and others pointed out that Musk has tried to get Swift’s attention before. Musk has a total of 12 acknowledged children and has expressed worries regarding the decrease in population in Western nations, even making a light-hearted comment on Twitter about his attempts to “repopulate” the planet.
Musk’s statement coincides with both him and Swift attracting a lot of public interest, as Swift has gained attention for her political involvement and Musk is busy with various business projects and personal affairs.
